This is an incredibly interesting trend. Have you noticed? Globally, over the next decade, a staggering number of small and medium-sized businesses will enter a succession phase. That’s because the baby boomer generation is retiring completely.
Family-owned businesses will likely pass to the eldest son or daughter, but of course, millions will be sold outright. In the United States, 6 million businesses will be up in the air for a moment, for sale or whatever.
According to a report by the McKinsey Institute for Economic Mobility, six million small and midsize American businesses are set to be involved in a “great ownership transfer” by 2035 as baby boomers retire, with about one million of them expected to be sold in transactions cumulatively worth $5 trillion.
Here’s my prediction: this great succession era will be the perfect timing for business entities to be thoroughly replaced by AI, becoming incredibly lean. That way, personnel becoming non-performing assets can be dismissed all at once, and selling off the business can yield high value in a compact manner.
I believe the next five or six years will be decisive. By 2035, the very form of private companies will have completely changed. Let’s move forward with this resolve!
