For Apple, which has innovated and provided great value by most valuing “diversity”, the Trump administration’s proposal to destroy it cannot be swallowed.
However, if they shout it too publicly, they will receive unreasonable and nasty retribution from that bully. To avoid this, Cook at the top could speak out softly in a manner that takes care of the shareholders’ vote, that absolutely defends their diversity to the death.
This two-step approach would make it easier for Apple to put on a facade of “well, if the shareholders say so….” I think this is wise.
This kind of “value clash” within the US is already taking place. Silicon Valley’s liberal arts culture is being tested against the anti-intellectualism of the Trump administration.
多様性を大事にすることでイノベーションを起こし、大きな価値を提供してきたアップルにとっては、トランプ政権の多様性破壊の提案は呑めるはずもありません。
しかし、あまり表立ってそれを叫ぶと、理不尽な意地悪な仕返しを、あのいじめっ子から受ける。それを避けるためには、トップのクックがやんわりと反対意見を述べて、それに続いて株主たちが集団で、絶対的に多様性確保を死守するという投票を行う。
この2段構えであれば、会社自体としても、”まあ 株主がそうおっしゃるなら…” という体面を取りやすいですよね 。とても賢明だと思います。
こうしたアメリカ国内での「価値観」の争いというものが、既に起こっています。反知性主義のトランプ政権に対する、シリコンバレーの教養が試されています。
