The worst toxic leader or true visionary?|

You can see Steve Jobs’s forcefulness in how he pushed the president of his partner company to break through his limits by shaking him up with his fierce communication skills. The CEO of Corning, the world’s largest LCD glass manufacturer, looks back on that time.

“But look what you’re doing,” Jobs told him. “You are putting your reputation [first]. You’re worried about you looking bad, and you’re keeping your people from greatness. Imagine how they’re going to feel?the folks that are working in that plant in Harrodsburg, Kentucky, all your investors … You’re putting yourself above them and your company.”

It sounds like something straight out of a movie script. “Your greatest enemy is fear. By overcoming it, you can contribute to society.” This is how this visionary inspired people.

At the same time, as multiple biographies point out, Jobs’s ruthlessness has led many people to ruin. Because, as this article also notes, for them it was a “generous and dangerous gamble.”

Even if they failed at the gamble of a lifetime, Jobs could rise again with his innate maniacal positivity and ambition. But can every leader do that? Absolutely not. Probably as many co-founders who built new worlds with him were sent to hell.

Even considering that, he remains a visionary of the highest order. It’s crucial to maintain a healthy distance when dealing with such dangerous geniuses. And to pair them effectively with a “top-tier beast tamer” like Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.

Either way, he still remains a captivating leader whose story endures.
