Leadership Theory from Harvard Business Review. How should you approach a subordinate who is not performing up to expectations?

“My goal is to give you clear feedback and ensure we are collectively working toward your development.” is crucial. In the end, it is NOT essential to point out directly what is not being done. Research has shown that it is more effective to follow the direction of subordinates than to directly point out all the things they are not doing.

I will use it to guide my undergrad students in seminars and graduate students.

「We should have an honest and open dialogue. My goal is to give you clear feedback and ensure we are collectively working toward your development.」
